Overview
A new recurring payments enhancement gives congregants much more control over how they manage their own payment schedules. Previously, they could only adjust a few fields on an existing recurring payment. With this update, administrators can optionally let them edit the full recurring payment setup, including the “waterfall” order and payment distribution.
How recurring payments work today
Recurring payments support two main approaches:
- The system applies the payment to the first item until it is fully satisfied, then proceeds to the next item.
- The allocation methodology spreads the payment amount across multiple items, and each item receives a portion of the monthly payment.
Administrators can also reorder items in a waterfall by dragging them with the handle on the left.
What congregants could edit before
Before this change, the system limited congregants to a few editable fields on their recurring payments.
- payment amount
- next payment date
- number of remaining payments
They could not see or modify the underlying waterfall or allocation details.
What happens when the payment amount changes
If a congregant changes the total recurring payment amount, the system now automatically recalculates the allocated line items proportionally.
We adjust the amounts assigned to each item to match the new total without requiring manual re-entry. The system automatically computes the total payment amount.
New option: Allow Full Recurring Edit
A new administrator setting makes it possible to expand congregant control even further.
To enable it:
- Go to Home > Declare Synagogue Options
- Find the Allow Full Recurring Edit setting
- Change it from Do Not Allow to Allow
- Save your changes

By default, this option is turned off so it does not affect existing workflows unless intentionally enabled.
What congregants can do with the new setting enabled
When this option is turned on, congregants can edit recurring payments much more broadly. They can:
- change allocation amounts
- adjust the payment order
- drag items to reorder them
- update the payment amount and see the allocation recalculate automatically
In short, anything an administrator can do for a recurring payment, the congregant can now do themselves when this feature is enabled.
Why this matters
This update is especially useful for organizations with recurring payments that may change over time. It reduces administrative overhead and gives congregants a self-service experience that is more flexible and convenient.
It also helps keep recurring payment records current, since users can maintain their own schedules instead of relying on staff for every adjustment.
Bottom line
This is a focused but powerful change to recurring payments. Administrators can now decide whether congregants should have basic edit access or full control over the structure of their recurring payments. When enabled, the new option brings greater flexibility, better self-service, and less manual maintenance for everyone involved.
